2024 A series of streetlamps with sculptures on top—addressing the topic of light pollution in cities, Brunnenviertel, Berlin-Wedding, supported by degewo AG

Brunnenviertel, a Kiez in Berlin-Wedding, is characterized by its green spaces and accessible courtyards. Housing Company Degewo, installed spherical street lamps in many of its courtyards and pathways. These lights provide soft, even romantic light. But these lanterns radiate their light in all directions, which adds light pollution to the city. As a response - visual artist Alona Rodeh, who lives and works in Brunnenviertel, has designed a series of sculptures that come on top of these lanterns. The works ensure that the light only shines downwards - in a playful, surprising, and culturally diverse way, addressing the under-valued topic of light pollution and its effects on humans and urban wildlife.

The residents of the Brunnenviertel were invited to participate in the design process by completing a questionnaire, choosing their favorite designs, drawing their designs, and suggesting their ideal locations.

The first iteration of the project was at CURRENT – Art and Urban Space, Stuttgart
