The kulturwerk of the bbk berlin is a non-profit subsidiary of the berufsverband bildender künstler*innen berlin (the professional association of visual artists in berlin) whose primary goal is to establish favourable conditions for artistic production.

The services provided by the kulturwerk are available to all professional visual artists in Berlin and enable them to work with unrestricted artistic freedom, independently of the pressures of conformity and commercialisation.

05.02.2024 | Recherchestipendien Bildende Kunst 2024 (Visual Arts Research Grants) announced in Berlin

In 2024, the Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt will once again award research grants in the field of visual arts for the artistic/curatorial development of Berlin-based professional artists, curators and artistic or curatorial groups in the field of visual arts in Berlin who have proven themselves through their work.

Studio office

The Studio Office offers artists seeking a space to work in advice and support, assists with the development and allocation of subsidised studios and studio apartments, and provides advice and support for the development of studio projects.

Sculpture workshop

The sculpture workshop offers technical advice and flexible working opportunities; it is equipped with industrial-scale machinery. The sculpture workshop offers excellent working conditions for artistic projects using wood, metal, stone, ceramics, plaster and moulding techniques, plastics, and 3D scanning.

Printing workshop

The printing workshop is a facility for traditional printing techniques like book printing, etching and lithography up to serigraphy and offset printing and digital formats. It also provides advice and assistance with papermaking and bookbinding.

Medienwerkstatt im Kulturwerk des bbk berlin

Media workshop

The media workshop provides infrastructure and technical advice for the realisation of art videos, multi-media performances and installations, as well as interactive art, with a green-screen studio and, in the near future, a media lab.

Office for Art in Public Space

Sculptures, installations, monuments and memorials not only visually inform the city, but also stimulate and incite public cultural discourse. The Office for Art in Public Space works to access spaces for public art and improves artists' professional perspectives by means of democratic, transparent competitions.

Office for Artist Consultation

This office provides advice to visual artists from Germany and abroad who want to take up professional work in Berlin. It offers them assistance with key questions about the profession and helps provide orientation within the artistic metropolis that is Berlin.
