Studio Office

Studio Office and Studio Commissioner for Berlin

The Studio Office in the kulturwerk of the bbk berlin is the central contact point for all artists living in Berlin and looking for a studio–regardless of whether they are members of the bbk. We provide advice on finding a studio and holding on to existing studios.

The Studio Office has made a long-term commitment to securing spaces for the production of visual art in Berlin and to keeping them affordable for artists, even in the face of gentrification.

In cooperation with the Senate Department for Culture and Europe and the Society for Urban Development (GSE), the Studio Office, as a cross-departmental interface, is constantly developing new artists' workspaces and advising public and private building owners and politicians. To this end, the office strives for close cooperation with the respective administrations in charge and also networks with social and urban policy initiatives that pursue similar objectives.

The Studio Commissioner is the head of the Studio Office. The office works independently and is not bound the interests of politics, the administration, or any association. It is committed solely to the non-profit purposes of the kulturwerk and in particular to its task of securing and expanding the infrastructure of workspaces for all visual artists living in Berlin.

In addition, the office also serves as the workspace for the Studio Advisory Committee. This committee is responsible for all decisions regarding the allocation of publicly funded studios and studio apartments, thereby ensuring transparency as well as equal opportunities.
