Save the Date: „Media and Music Talks“ lecture #4 Rumours of Noise
‘Rumours of Noise’ – planned as a series within the framework of Media and Music Talks – is dedicated to a particular aspect of contemporary music: working with noise, radical soundscapes and drones. This only entered the consciousness of a wider audience during the slow expansion of traditional concepts of music and art. There are still surprising musical discoveries to be made here and excitingly ever more differentiated genre branches, often embedded in a creative context that exhibits the characteristics of a Gesamtkunstwerk and ideological utopia.
The media workshop of the kulturwerk des bbk berlin is a place where new perspectives on familiar media genres can be explored and interdisciplinary ideas can be further developed.
The fourth part of our event series asks the question ‘Drones and Noise for Meditation?’ and thus refers to the proximity to genres such as ambient, dark ambient and ambient trance, while at the same time distinguishing itself from purely functional background music. This opens up the possibility of using drone and noise music, which largely dispenses with rhythmic structures and percussive elements but not with complexity, to serve as an unconventional means of relaxation.
This time, as a one-off event, there will also be a live act: Werner Durand, Berlin drone pioneer from the very beginning, Ira Hadžić sound artist and gong player, and Manfred Miersch on the theremin and modular drone bank, will perform a 40-minute set.
