FIXTURES
Jour Fixe of the Media Workshop
The FIXTURES serie offers an opportunity for users of the media workshop and an interested audience to exchange views on current media-related topics and to show and discuss their own artistic works and projects. Once a month, we invite artists, experts and other cultural workers to organise an evening in the media lab.
The term fixtures is a synonym in English for device, component or equipment, but in a specific context it is also used for a programmed lighting preset, e.g. for stage lighting. Working with audiovisual media is largely associated with the use of technical devices, equipment and software. However, artistic work with media often takes place in the creative reinterpretation of the predifined use. The FIXTURES are intended to reflect on working methods and tools, while at the same time offering a space to critically scrutinise and rethink the effects of media on various social fields.
The meetings take place in the media lab on a Monday evening and are always announced on our website.

The KLIMATON project explores how artistic approaches can engage with scientific data archives—especially when dealing with complex and abstract issues such as global warming. At its center is the Klimaton Arctic sound instrument: a resonating body of the Arctic that translates scientific measurements into sound. As a hybrid of sonification device and musical instrument, it offers a playful and sensorial way of accessing scientific content.
