The print workshop in the Kulturwerk of bbk berlins is an institution for the organized sponsorship of artists in the area of print graphics and printing techniques.
The print workshop has existed since 1955 and was expanded in 1973 with govern-ment funds. From the small workshop for etching and lithography became the print workshop in Bethanien that offers all printing techniques and production opportuni-ties for artists. From the traditional printing techniques of letterpress, etching and li-thography, to silk-screen and offset printing, the offer was expanded in accordance with technical developments in the latest digital innovations. In addition to this, there are workshops for papermaking and bookbinding.
A record of the artistic works is an archive that contains a "workshop printout" of every impression that was prepared in the printing workshop. This archive, with ap-proximately 5,000 exhibits, is the "copper plate cabinet" of present-day art.
Silk-Screen Printing
Silk-screen printing directly over illustrations and templates is possible, as are photo or digital processes, such as scanning. Available are frames of up to printing format 100 x 140 cm with various fabric sizes for printing on diverse materials such as paper, wood or canvas. All works are carried out with dissolvent-free guach or acrylic colors.

Letterpress
In the letterpress workshop, works can be carried out with traditional letterpress pro-cesses such as wood and linocut (up to 70 x 90cm ), as well as Nylo clichés made with photo technology. For this, there are two printing presses in AO and A1 format, two proof printers (50 x 70 cm), and a toggle press (60 x 80 cm). A unique and large in-ventory of lead and wood types makes bigger book projects possible.

Offset Workshop
After receiving training on the printing press, artists can also produce larger formats (up to 70 x 100 cm) in small numbers. There are also presses for wood engraving. The high-speed printing press (50x70) is available to skilled offset printers: With this, fold-ers, posters, art books and catalogs are produced. Employees of the printing workshop assist with planning, costing and setting deadlines.

Work can be done independently on manual and semi-automatic friction presses. Larger runs can be printed on high-speed presses (up to 65 x 85 cm). In addition to the familiar process of ink and chalk drawings, it is also possible to apply photo-graphic and digital means. Among the lithography inventory is an extensive store of lithography stones of 60 x 90 cm.
